The Administrative Appeals Chamber of the Upper Tribunal has power to hear all cases coming from England, Wales and, for non-devolved matters, Scotland.
Our main offices are in London, Cardiff and Edinburgh. Most of our work is done there. But we take oral hearings also in the north of England. We use the county courts in Bury and Doncaster or similar locations. We also sit in other parts of England and Wales when a particular case justifies this.
Although much of the law is very similar, there is a separate appeals system in Northern Ireland and most appeals against tribunal decisions are heard by the Northern Ireland Social Security, Child Support and War Pensions Commissioners.

There are separate social security schemes for the other British crown territories including Guernsey, Jersey, and the Isle of Man. There is an agreement to coordinate the rules for people who move between territories.
The Administrative Appeals Chamber of the Upper Tribunal has can decide appeals about claims made in Britain under that agreement, but not claims made in the other territories.

Note:
From 3 November 2008 the new Upper Tribunal has taken over the work of the Social Security, Child Support and Pensions Appeal Commissioners. The Commissioners formerly handled appeals from tribunals that are now covered by the Social Entitlement Chamber, and the War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal.
The Upper Tribunal also deals with appeals from the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber of the First-tier Tribunal.
